I’ve been designing electronics and embedded real-time systems since the late 1990s, with a lifelong interest in computing that began on my first Apple computer in the 80s. My focus areas include embedded systems, industrial electronics, wireless/wired communication, and software engineering and development practices. I’ve worked in R&D startups and large development teams, with an interest in IoT systems, instrumentation, networking and edge-level data systems applications in environmental monitoring, agriculture and industrial systems.  I been teaching at 91´óÏ㽶ȫ¼¯ since 2012 with a current teaching  focus covering IoT systems, industrial automation, and engineering projects and project management.

I hold a BSc (Honours) in Computer Science, an MSc and PhD from UBC focused on low-power wireless sensor networks, and an Honours Diploma in Robotics and Automation from BCIT.  I am a member of IEEE and the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society.   More recently, I’ve been involved in a number of Ed Tech initiatives, including the development of a platform for streamlining optical exam marking and feedback delivery.

Electronic Engineering - Nadir Ould-Khessal

I joined the Electronic Engineering Technology department at 91´óÏ㽶ȫ¼¯ in August 2005. I teach courses in electronics, robotics and embedded systems. My research areas are robotics and embedded databases. Prior to 91´óÏ㽶ȫ¼¯, I was with Vaasa University of Applied Science, Finland, as a visiting senior lecturer and Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore, as a lecturer and head of the Robotics & Automation Center. I am currently the chair of Western Canada RoboCup Junior and the Canadian National Representative at the World RoboCup federation. I am a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and ACM.

I sent my first text message in 1998 while working for the paging (yes, paging) company Glenayre Technologies and have been addicted to electronic devices ever since. Fortunately, I make a living working with electronic devices and teaching others about their inner workings in the Electronic Engineering Technology program. My R&D interests involve helping sensor systems (more electronic devices!) talk to the Internet - even if they are far far away.
